Volta Regional Minister And Nadmo Officials Provide Relief To Liati Wote Windstorm Victims
A devastating windstorm swept through Liati Wote in the Afadjato South District a week ago, around 6:00 pm, ripping off the roofs of 22 buildings and affecting 160 residents. Many of the displaced victims are now seeking shelter with neighbors and friends as they recover from the disaster.
Hon. James Gunu Volta Regional Minister, expressed deep concern upon hearing about the incident. Saddened by the extent of the damage, he visited the affected community on 7th March 2025 to show solidarity with the victims. During his visit, he urged artisans to ensure high-quality workmanship in construction, given the rising cost of building materials. He also called on the District Assembly to enforce proper building standards to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As part of relief efforts, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), led by Regional Coordinator Dodzie Aidam, provided essential supplies to assist the victims. The relief items included: 100 bags of rice, 30 cartons of cooking oil, 50 bundles of roofing sheets and 10 packs of roofing nails.
In addition to the NADMO relief, the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, donated GHC 2,000 to support the affected residents.
Torgbui Koradza V, the Chief of Liati Wote, expressed gratitude to the Minister, Hon. Frank Afriyie MP for Afadjato South, and NADMO for their swift intervention. However, he also used the opportunity to appeal for urgent attention to their roads, which remain in poor condition.
This unfortunate incident highlights the need for improved infrastructure and proactive measures to safeguard communities from natural disasters. The authorities have assured residents of further support and interventions to prevent future occurrences.
