On Monday, 18th December, 2023, the Regional Environmental Health Office headed by, Mrs. Stella Kumedzro received Mr. Ramesh Bhusal, the Chief of Water, Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) from United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Ghana and his team to pay a visit to the Regional Environmental Health Office.

Their visit was also to witness the havoc wrecked by the flood caused by the Akosombo Dam Spillage in relation to Public Health and also empathize with the victims in the districts.

UNICEF donated WASH items to the affected areas through the Volta regional Environmental Health Office. The items comprised 250 boxes of dignity kits, 35 set of digniloo Toilets, Trampolines, 60 Hand Washing Facilities and dustbins.

These items were to help alleviate the challenges faced in terms of WASH during the disaster. The team visited some of the safe havens and interacted with the victims. The victims on the other hand expressed appreciation to the team and opined that the items received has brought a lot of relief to them. Nevertheless, the victims seized the opportunity to appeal to the Chief of WASH to assist in the provision of portable water to the camps.
