Togbe Afede and Volta Regional Minister Lead Chinese Investors to Hohoe for Proposed Cocoa Processing Factory
Today, Sunday, 23rd November, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, together with the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, and in the company of Wisdom Dogbe, Managing Director of the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC), led a team of Chinese investors to Hohoe to explore plans for the establishment of a cocoa processing factory in the municipality. an important milestone for the Volta Region’s industrial development.
The delegation was received by the MP for Hohoe, Hon. Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo; the MCE for Hohoe, Hon. Prosper Kumi; and chiefs of the Hohoe Traditional Area.
During the stakeholder engagement, both Togbe Afede and Hon. Gunu emphasized the national and regional importance of the proposed factory. They highlighted sustainability as a core component, announcing plans to accompany the factory project with large-scale cocoa farming to ensure a consistent supply of raw materials.
The Managing Director of CMC, Wisdom Dogbe, reiterated that establishing a cocoa processing factory in the Volta Region was a manifesto promise, and today’s engagement signals the beginning of its fulfilment. He added that the factory is expected to significantly reduce cocoa smuggling, particularly in and around Hohoe.
The team visited the designated project site at the Light Industrial Area in Avega, a suburb of Hohoe. The Regional Minister noted that the site is strategically positioned, with easy access to the Eastern Corridor Road and northern parts of the Volta Region.
The delegation also toured the abandoned coffee factory and the cocoa warehouse, both of which form part of the broader industrial revitalisation plan for Hohoe.
Today’s visit represents a strong step toward transforming Hohoe into a vibrant agro-industrial hub in the Volta Region.
