A delegation from the Ghana National Canoe and Fishermen Council (GNCFC) – Southern Volta, led by Regional Chairman Doe Nkekeshie, has paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, to discuss pressing issues affecting fishermen in the Region.

During the meeting, Regional Secretary Mr. Victor Dzokoto congratulated the Minister and outlined key concerns of the fishing community. These included the composition of the premix fuel committee, which they believe includes individuals with little knowledge of the fishing industry, the lack of marine police to regulate fishing activities, and the need for their fishermen to access training at the Anomabo Fishing School to adopt modern fishing techniques. They also urged the Minister to ensure regular engagement with fishermen to address their challenges proactively.

Hon. James Gunu acknowledged their concerns and assured them of the government’s commitment to addressing the issues. He emphasized the importance of the fishing sector to the regional economy and pledged to ensure that their grievances receive the necessary attention at the appropriate levels.
