The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), led by Regional President Klu Elikplim, on 18th March 2025 paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, to discuss key challenges faced by persons with disabilities in the Region.

The delegation raised concerns about the delayed construction of an orthopedic center, the lack of accessibility in public buildings such as VRCC, Social Welfare and Births and Deaths offices, and the need for sign language interpreters in hospitals to assist people with hearing disabilities.

Hon. James Gunu acknowledged their concerns, stating that everyone is at risk of being disabled at any point in life. He assured them of his commitment to engaging stakeholders to address their challenges. Additionally, he pledged to support them with wheelchairs, white canes, crutches, and other essential aids, and promised that the District Common Fund allocated to persons with disabilities would be duly disbursed.
