Ho hosted a key stakeholder forum as part of Ghana’s ongoing Zonal Consultations for the formulation of the National Decentralisation Policy (20252029). The session was led by the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation.

Chief Director Augustus Awity, representing the Volta Regional Minister, opened the forum with a call to strengthen grassroots governance as the foundation for national development. He identified critical threats to decentralisation efforts, including the recentralisation of funds by central agencies, skewed recruitment in Local Government Services, where planners are in short supply while auditors are overrepresented and the persistent underfunding of Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs).

Mr. Awity cautioned that these systemic challenges could derail Ghana’s devolution agenda if left unaddressed. The upcoming policy framework seeks to reposition Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) as key drivers of local development and inclusive economic growth.
