Workers in the Volta Region Marked May Day with a parade in Ho.

The Regional Minister, Hon. Dr Archibald Yao Letsa participated and represented His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the President of the Republic. This year’s May Day Celebration at the regional level was held at the Jubilee Park, Ho and saw the representation and participation of various organized labour unions in the region.

Addressing the gathering, the Regional Minister paid glowing and deserving tributes to the hardworking, patriotic and industrious workers of our motherland who devoted their lives to serve the nation.

Furthermore, Hon Dr Letsa stated the need for all workers to take stock of our past performances and identify challenges we encountered in order that we can collectively evolve measures to surmount the drawbacks.

He also used the opportunity to call on employers to remit the full pension contributions of their employees to the designated pension scheme managers to secure the future of employees.

Similarly, The Regional Minister entreated workers to set aside regular sums of money and invest them in well-diversified investment portfolios.

Hon Dr Letsa reminded the gathering about the President’s vision of “Ghana Beyond Aid” and reiterated that we are blessed beyond measure to continue to depend on aid. Thus, with the right attitude and commitment to work, we can achieve the President’s vision.

Dr Letsa intimated government’s acknowledgement of the pertinent role of workers in the overall development of our beloved country. He therefore encouraged labour to continue to work even harder to facilitate the transformation of our economy.

Finally, the Hon Regional Minister appealed to organized labour to continue to cooperate with government as frantic efforts are made to revamp and sustain all sectors of the economy towards stability and development in a spirit of dialogue for the resolution of any grievances that might arise.
