UHAS School of Sports and Exercise Medicine Calls on Regional Minister
On March 18, 2025, a delegation from the School of Sports and Exercise Medicine (SSEM) at UHAS, led by Acting Dean Prof. Nii Korley Kortei, paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu. The visit aimed to congratulate him on his appointment and discuss key initiatives to promote sports and health in the Region.
- Their proposals included:
An Annual Football Cup to build studentcapacity in sports management and nutrition. - Scholarships for talented but underprivileged student-athletes to study at UHAS
- A Regional Fitness Day to encourage active lifestyles.
- International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) on April 6, where Hon. Gunu was invited asKeynote Speaker.
- Support for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) to enhance sports coverage.
- Development of a Human Performance Laboratory for fitness testing and research.
Hon. Gunu commended UHAS for itscommitment to sports and healthand pledged his support to ensure thatsports development thrives in the region. He emphasized thata healthy population is key to productivity and developmentand assured them ofcollaborative effortsto bring their proposals to life.
