The Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Simone Giger, has paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) as part of her visit to the Region. The purpose of her visit was to congratulate the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, on his new appointment and explore areas of collaboration between Switzerland and the Region.

However, due to an emergency engagement, Hon. Gunu was unavailable at the time of the visit. In his absence, the Chief Director of the VRCC, Mr. Augustus Awity, together with some Departmental Heads, welcomed Ambassador Giger and engaged in productive discussions on the challenges faced by the RCC and District Assemblies.

Mr. Awity and his team highlighted several key issues, including infrastructure deficits, financial constraints, vehicle and maintenance challenge, human resource capacity gaps amongst others. In response to these challenges, the Chief Director made a special request for capacity building programs in project management, financial management, procurement, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), contract management and others.

Ambassador Giger expressed her appreciation for the discussions and reiterated Switzerland’s interest in exploring possible collaborations to help address some of the Region’s pressing challenges. She looked forward to strengthening partnerships that could support institutional growth and enhance development efforts within the Volta Region.

The visit marks a crucial step toward international cooperation, with the potential to foster sustainable development and capacity building initiatives for the VRCC and its Assemblies.
