On Wednesday, 22nd January 2025, a delegation from Right To Play, a global organization dedicated to protecting, educating, and empowering children through the power of play, met with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) to introduce their flagship project, My Rights, My Future (MRMF 2024-2027).
The Regional Coordinating Director, Mr. Augustus K. Awity, warmly welcomed the delegation. In his opening remarks, he underscored the importance of initiatives aimed at addressing child protection and development in the region and assured the delegation of VRCC’s openness to collaboration.
The Project Director from Right To Play Paa K. Akwasi-Gyapong,presented an overview of the organization, established in 2000 with its headquarters in Canada. He highlighted the focus of the MRMF Project, a three-year initiative funded by the European Union (EU) to combat exploitative child labor in the Volta Region, specifically in the Kpando district.
“The mission of Right To Play is to create a future where every child can rise above adversity through education, empowerment, and protection. This project aligns with that mission and seeks to provide holistic support for children and their families in vulnerable communities,” he said.
The presentation outlined five core objectives being Empowering Community Child Protection Committee, Skills Development for Children and Adults, Educational Support and Strengthening, Family and Community Engagement and Advocacy and Policy Enforcement.
The project aims to impact about 4,800 children aged 5-17, with 40% being girls, 9,600 farmers and caregivers, equipping them with knowledge and tools to support children’s well-being amongst others. After the presentation, the Chief Director of the VRCC opened the floor for questions, suggestions, and discussions. Participants engaged in a robust conversation, exploring opportunities for collaboration, potential challenges, and ways to ensure the success of the project in the region.
The delegation emphasized that the success of the project requires strong partnerships with regional and local stakeholders, urging VRCC and its allied institutions to actively participate in the implementation process.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with VRCC expressing its readiness to support the MRMF Project and collaborate with Right To Play to improve the lives of children and families in the region.
