Abla Dzifa Gomashie, statesman and former Ghanaian Ambassador, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, diplomats, aviation regulators and industry leaders to officially welcome Africa World Airlines’ new Embraer E190 aircraft to Ghana.
Held under the theme “Expanding Horizons, Elevating West African Connectivity,” the ceremony marked another significant milestone in AWA’s 14-year journey and its contribution to Ghana’s aviation industry.
The Transport Minister, highlighted government’s ongoing investments in airport infrastructure and connectivity, including the expansion and upgrading of airports across the country. He noted that such investments, together with fleet expansion by local airlines, are aimed at making air travel more convenient while strengthening Ghana’s position as a key aviation hub in West Africa.
The new 102-seater E190, featuring AWA’s refreshed identity and Ghana’s national colours, represents more than fleet expansion. It signals growing confidence in Ghana’s aviation sector and offers greater capacity to support domestic and regional connectivity, tourism, trade and investment.
AWA, which has carried more than five million passengers over 14 years and employs a workforce that is 97% Ghanaian, continues to demonstrate the capacity of Ghanaian talent and enterprise in the aviation industry.
For the Volta Region, stronger air connectivity presents significant opportunities to advance tourism, investment, trade and business, while connecting the Region’s people, destinations and opportunities to Ghana and the wider West African market.
The event brought together senior government officials, diplomatic representatives, aviation regulators, airline executives, investors and industry partners, underscoring the growing importance of aviation to Ghana’s economic and tourism ambitions.
