Ho Teaching Hospital Reviews Performance, Set for Major Upgrade
The Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) has held its 2024 Annual Performance Review Conference in Ho, bringing together key stakeholders to assess progress and challenges while charting the way forward. The conference, themed “Focusing on Stakeholder Participation in Innovative Tertiary Healthcare for Medical Tourism,” emphasized the hospital’s efforts to expand specialized healthcare and medical tourism.
Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, commended HTH for its dedication to quality healthcare and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading the hospital into a comprehensive specialist facility as part of the 2025 budget. He highlighted efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure, retool facilities, and improve financial support through reforms in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
HTH CEO, Dr. John Tampuori, outlined key achievements, including the completion of the Teaching Hospital Annex, a CT scan centre, and a Family Health Centre. He also announced plans for a 500-bed expansion project, pending government approval. While staff strength and outpatient visits increased, challenges such as rising patient mortality and financial constraints persist. He called on the government to absorb the 13th-month salary payments to ease pressure on the hospital’s internally generated funds.
The conference provided a platform to review performance, identify areas for improvement, and strengthen partnerships with other teaching hospitals and healthcare institutions. Hon. Gunu urged stakeholders to work together to build a high-quality and efficient healthcare system, positioning HTH as a leading facility in Ghana’s medical tourism sector.
