Gabriel Adovoe Kwabla Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple wins Volta Region’s Council of State Elections
Weta has reclaimed its place in Ghana’s Council of State following the election of Gabriel Adovoe Kwabla Tanko Kwamigah-Atokpleas the Volta Region’s representative. The 36-year-old businessman and philanthropist secured a decisive 24 out of 36 votes, marking a generational shift in the region’s leadership.
His victory restores Weta’s legacy in national governance, following in the footsteps of Professor Kofi Nyidevu Awoonor, who served as Council of State Chairman (2009–2013). Unlike his predecessor’s literary and diplomatic contributions, Tanko’s leadership is expected to focus on investment, infrastructure, job creation, and economic empowerment.
During the elections, Hon. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, visited the voting center and remained until the results were declared, underscoring his commitment to a fair and transparent process.
Tanko’s election signals a renewed emphasis on business-driven governance, aiming to foster regional investment, SME growth, youth employment, and agricultural innovation. He has pledged to work closely with Stakeholders, Investors, and Government Institutions to drive sustainable development in the Volta Region.
With this victory, Weta’s influence in national decision-making is restored, ushering in a new era of progressive, youth-led leadership in Ghana’s governance.
