Director of Gender Pays Courtesy Call on Volta Regional Minister
The Volta Regional Director of Gender, Madam Thywill Eyra Kpe, and her team paid a courtesy call on Hon. James Gunu to discuss gender inclusivity and women’s participation in governance.
Madam Kpe highlighted data showing low female representation in local governance across the Region, with some Districts having no elected female Assembly Members. She also stressed the importance of sustaining UNFPA-supported programs, which require timely approvals to ensure continued funding for community development initiatives.
Hon. James Gunu reaffirmed his commitment to gender inclusivity, noting that the NDC remains the first party to consistently choose a female running mate and Vice President. He emphasized that the current government values women’s contributions and is committed to ensuring equal representation in decision-making.
The meeting ended with a pledge to collaborate on initiatives that empower women and promote inclusive governance in the Region.
