Earlier today, the VRCC received a distinguished delegation from the Anlo Dukor, sent by the Awormefia of the Anlo State, Togbi Sri III, and led by the Awadada, Togbi Agbesi Awusu II.

The delegation expressed concerns over troubling rumours that the West Africa Coastal Areas (WACA) project in the Volta Region had been shelved.

The Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, gave a firm assurance: that is not true.

According to the Minister, the World Bank has already released funds for a part of the project. Just a few days ago, he chaired a meeting at his office with LUSPA, and a one‑week training programme for three beneficiary districts in the Volta Region has been scheduled in Aburi next week.

Hon. Gunu reiterated that the Mahama government is fully committed to ensuring the WACA project takes off, with various Ministries actively handling different aspects of the programme.

Present at the meeting were the MCE for Keta, the MCE for Ho, and the DCE for Anloga. Keta and Anloga confirmed that LUSPA visited their districts earlier this week and explained that before the project can finally launch, the framework must be properly put together. That work is actively ongoing.

The WACA project remains vital for our coastal communities, addressing erosion, flooding, and land degradation while improving livelihoods.

The VRCC urges the public not to panic. The project is alive, and all stakeholders are working to see it through.
