The newly appointed Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, officially began his first day in office with an engaging and insightful meeting with staff of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC). The session, marked by enthusiasm and a renewed sense of purpose, set the tone for what promises to be a collaborative and results-driven tenure.

Welcoming the Minister, the Coordinating Director Augustus Awity expressed the commitment and readiness of the entire workforce to support his vision for the region. He assured Hon. Gunu of the staff’s dedication to ensuring that his policies and strategies yield the desired impact, emphasizing that the VRCC remains Ghana’s leading Regional Coordinating Council in efficiency and performance.

In his address, Hon. Gunu acknowledged the competence and manpower strength within the VRCC, describing it as the best in the country. However, he called for a new level of commitment, innovation, and collaboration as part of the Resetting Agenda—a strategic push towards regional transformation. His guiding principles, he stated, would be partnership, collaboration, politics, development, patriotism, and nationalism, all aimed at fostering unity and progress in the Volta Region.

Addressing economic growth, Hon. Gunu emphasized the need for a 24-hour economy as promised by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama, noting that nations with thriving economies operate round the clock, creating opportunities that ultimately bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. He stressed that sustained economic activities are critical to ensuring financial inclusivity and development.

The Minister also outlined three key challenges he intends to address immediately:

1. The deteriorating condition of the Ministerial Residency, which requires urgent attention.
2. The water crisis affecting parts of the Volta Region, a pressing issue that needs sustainable solutions.
3. The devastating impact of tidal waves in the Ketu South and Anlo enclave, which worsened just the day before his assumption of office.

In a reassuring tone, Hon. Gunu declared his office open to all, encouraging collaboration at every level to drive development across the region. His remarks were met with positive contributions and engagement from staff, further reinforcing the shared commitment to making a lasting impact.
