VOLTA REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICE EMBARKS ON INTENSIVE RADIO ENGAGEMENT ON SANITATION
The Regional Environmental Health Office of the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council, beginning January 2022 embarked on an intensive Public Education Campaign using radio and other social media platforms. The objective of the campaign was to sensitize the public on food poisoning among other topics of public health concern.
In the Regional Capital, Ho, the Campaign was conducted on selected radio stations, namely West FM, Volta Star Radio and Global FM alongside the official Facebook Page of the Office. Aside from food poisoning, the Officers of the Regional Office educated the public on household rodents which are major carriers of diseases yet ignored. The public was advised to keep their homes, shops and offices clean and undertake periodic pest control.
The Campaign also covered Waste Management and attention was drawn to the growing menace of plastic waste among other solid waste pollution.
Sanitation officers who undertook the engagements named some of the most polluted areas in the municipality, and entreated community leaders in those areas to assist in addressing the situation.
The officers decried the increasing practice of discharging both household and industrial liquid waste into domestic drains which has many health implications. The Public Education Campaign on radio provided the opportunity for the public to join discussions around sanitation, and help identify other areas of concern for the needed attention
