Volta Region Holds Maiden Traditional Cuisine Festival
The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has officially opened the first-ever Volta CNC Traditional Cuisine Festival, held in Ho as part of the Black Star Experience Initiative launched by the President of the Republic.
Speaking at the colourful event, the Minister described the festival as more than just a celebration of food, noting that it embodies identity, heritage, health, and economic opportunity. He commended the Centre for National Culture (CNC), Volta Region, for spearheading the initiative in collaboration with Volta Star Radio, which is marking its 90th anniversary.
Hon. Gunu highlighted the nutritional value and sustainability of indigenous dishes, encouraging the public to embrace them as healthier alternatives while supporting local farmers and agribusinesses. He further called for the transformation of culinary heritage into sustainable businesses that create jobs and attract tourism to the Region.
The Regional Director of CNC, Mrs. Lydia Nyarko-Ampomah, in her welcome address, emphasized the need to preserve and promote Ghana’s indigenous culinary heritage, describing it as “the heartbeat of our culture.”
With the theme “Unity in Diversity: Celebrating the Tastes of Volta,” the festival showcased diverse traditional dishes from across the region, inspiring pride in local culture while fostering unity and economic growth.
