As part of the mandate of the Regional Environmental Health Office, the Regional Environmental Health Officer (REHO), Ms. Stella Kumedzro and her team of officers conducted supervision and monitoring in the 18 Municipal and District Assemblies in the Volta Region from the 24th to 31st August, 2023.

The monitoring aimed at providing technical backstopping and support to Municipal and District Environmental Health Officers in the Region. REHO seized the opportunity to interact with chiefs and elders, management and staff of the Assemblies. The team visited some institutions within the districts.

The visit was carried out to engage with management of the MDAs to solicit support for the Environmental Health and Sanitation Units. Engage with staff of the various MDAs to discuss issues on their service delivery and address challenges, provide Technical Backstopping to staff on the emerging trends of environmental Health issues, engage Traditional leaders on their roles in helping the Environmental Health deliver on its mandates, carry out joint monitoring of some institutional facilities within the MDAs and also encourage enrolment of staff unto the Volta Region Environmental Health Officers Welfare Union (VREHOWU).

The Regional Environmental Health Officer appreciated the effort of Traditional rulers and called on them to support environmental sanitation in their various communities. Finally, ten staff durbars were held in the MDAs and issues concerning the activities of the officers were discussed and consensus was reached. Managements of the MDAs were met and issues concerning logistics support for the EHSU were discussed extensively. Monitoring visits were made to some institutions in the visited MDAs, eight Traditional Leaders were engaged separately and issues regarding support for staff at the community levels were discussed, Managements of the various facilities visited were engaged after the joint monitoring and feedback sessions were held to discuss findings of the team
