The Volta/Oti Regional Manager of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Maxwell Awumah, together with his team, paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, at his office today to formally welcome him to the region and pledge the Agency’s support to his administration.

Mr. Awumah indicated that GNA has a strong presence across the Volta and Oti Regions, with twelve correspondents strategically positioned to cover activities within the region comprehensively. He emphasized the Agency’s readiness to support the Regional Minister through effective news coverage, collaboration, and timely dissemination of accurate information. The team also used the opportunity to seek further support from the Minister, including additional working tools to complement the laptop earlier provided, and to discuss areas of collaboration as the Agency prepares to transition into a new operational phase from 2026.

In response, Hon. James Gunu thanked the GNA team for the visit and described the Ghana News Agency as one of the most authentic and credible news institutions in the country. He encouraged the Agency to be more innovative in its operations and expressed his satisfaction with its plans to reposition and evolve from 2026.

The Regional Minister further reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with GNA, noting that his administration is shifting from mere cooperation to true collaboration with key stakeholders. Referencing Sustainable Development Goal 17, he stressed that partnerships and collaboration are essential and form the foundation of all development goals. Hon. Gunu assured the GNA team of his support, describing the Agency as a key institution he is ready to support to grow and succeed.

The meeting underscored the importance of strong partnerships between government and the media in promoting development, accountability, and accurate public information dissemination in the Volta Region.
