Adolescent Mentorship and Empowerment Camp held for 96
The Department with funding support from UNFPA held a 3-day 2021 Adolescent Mentorship and Empowerment Camp at the GNAT Hall in the Ho Municipality. The camp which began on 18th August 2021 and ended on 20th August 2021 was to develop capacities and mentor 20 boys and 40 girls between the ages 10 to 18 years and are JHS pupils to become peer educators and advocates on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH), teenage pregnancy, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and child marriage in their schools and communities.
Participants were selected from schools in Ho Municipalility, Akatsi North District, Central Tongu District, South Dayi District, North Dayi and Afadzato South Districts. A total number of ninety-six (96) participants attended the programme.
Facilitators and stakeholders were drawn from Department of Gender (DoG), Ghana Health Service (GHS), Ghana Education Service (GES), Department of Children (DoC), Department of Social Welfare (DSW), National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE). Five (5) mentors from noble institutions shared their live experiences with the adolescents.
The Department distributed UNFPA branded T- shirts, branded sanitary pads as well as nose mask and sanitizers.
On the final day of the programme, the adolescent boys and girls had the opportunity to socialise in order to create a support network for their educational journey.
