2021 Safer Internet Day Celebration Held in Ho
Safer internet is a day set aside to promote a safer and more responsible use of online technology by children and young people around the World. It is celebrated in February on the second day of the second week of the second month, in each year. The day called upon all stakeholders to join together to make the internet a safer and better place for all, and especially for children and young people.
The theme for the celebration is together for a better internet”. This year’s celebration was held at Dome EP Basic School, Ho Bankoe E.P School, Victory International School and Kingdom FM 105.9. The celebration took place on the following days; 9th, 11th, 12th respectively.
Participants were some selected school children in the Ho Municipality as well as the general public which benefited from the radio discussions. The resource persons took the participants through the following topics. Cyber bullying, how to be safe online, who is a trusted adult, what a parent should do when his/her child is being cyber bullied, and where to go for help and where to find the safety tools on your favorites apps and games.
The phone in during the radio discussion revealed that some parents are not aware of some of the dangerous sites their children visits which can lead to cyber bullying and it effects henceforth promised to monitor their children when using the internet. The celebration helps people to be more confidence about staying safe online. The teachers and the general public noted that, Safer Internet day led to disclosures about potential safeguarding issues online
