On Monday, 6th December, 2021, the Department of Gender under the auspices of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) in partnership with UNFPA, commemorated the 16 Days of Activism Against Sexual And Gender-Based Violence.
The program started with a caravan float through the Ho municipality and ended with a gathering at the Ho Sports Stadium where series of activities took place. These include screening for HIV AIDS by personnel from Ghana AIDS Commission, solidarity messages from various dignitaries present and unveiling of a mural drawing with a child marriage message.
In attendance were, Mrs. Thywill Eyra Kpe, the Regional Director of Department of Gender, the DCE of Ho West, and the representative of the Regional Minister in the person of Hon. Ernest Apau, the president of Christian council Ho, and the chairperson for the day’s occasion, Rev. Seth K. Mawutor, representatives from UNFPA Ghana, Regional Directors of sister departments such as Department of Children and Department of Social Welfare. Others present were representatives from NCCE, Ghana AIDS Commission, NYA, the Regional Chief Imam and his entourage, groups and societies including students from some basic schools and Senior High Schools as well as some Vocation schools within the Ho municipality.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Sexual And Gender-Based Violence is an annual campaign program geared towards awareness creation to ending sexual and gender-based violence and child marriage.
