Day Two of the Regional Minister’s Tour: Productive Engagements in Hohoe Municipality.
The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, on the second day of his working tour of the Hohoe Municipality, held fruitful engagements with the Alavanyo Traditional Council, the Gbi Traditional Council, and the Anlo Community. He was accompanied by the Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Hon. Worlanyo Tsekpo, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Prosper Kumi.
At Alavanyo, the Minister outlined government’s broader vision, including the merger of the Ministries of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to strengthen collaboration with traditional authorities. He further unveiled key developmental plans for the area such as the establishment of a cocoa processing factory, the development of coffee farms, the revival of the Nkrumah-era coffee processing factory, and a groundbreaking initiative to set up a gun-making factory by leveraging Alavanyo’s indigenous expertise. These initiatives are expected to boost the local economy, provide jobs, support national security, and reduce imports.
The Paramount Chief of Alavanyo, Togbega Tsedze Atakora VII, expressed appreciation for the visit and projects, but appealed for more teachers in the traditional area to support education. He also confirmed that lands had been made available to the Ghana Police Service for development, which the Minister later visited together with a military base in the community.
The Minister also held very constructive meetings with the Gbi Traditional Council and the Anlo Community, where issues of development, unity, and partnerships were discussed. He assured them of government’s continuous support and called for stronger collaboration with stakeholders to move the Volta Region forward.
Later in the day, Hon. Gunu made a stop at the ongoing Vakpor Trade Fair at the E.P. Park in Hohoe. He commended the organizers for promoting locally made products and encouraged the youth to take advantage of government interventions designed for their benefit, while also highlighting opportunities for exhibitors to market their products internationally.
The Regional Minister’s tour continues tomorrow with inspections of key economic sites, including cocoa and coffee processing facilities, the Hohoe Industrial Park, and the Hohoe Campus of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).
