Volta Regional Minister Visits Abandoned Coffee Processing Factory in Hohoe
On the third day of his tour of the Hohoe Municipality, the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, visited the Coffee Processing Unit of the Volta Regional Coffee Producers Association – Ghana Cocoa Board, Hohoe. The facility, established during the era of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has remained abandoned since 1959, leading to little to no encouragement in coffee production over the years.
Hon. Gunu expressed his firm determination to revive the factory as part of efforts to stimulate economic growth and create sustainable jobs for the people of the Volta Region. He revealed that investors have already shown interest in both coffee farming and processing, which, once realized, will add value to the crop locally.
The Minister further cautioned that without a viable market, smuggling of coffee into neighbouring Togo where coffee is in high demand will persist. He therefore underscored the need to prioritize investment in the sector to harness its economic potential for the Region and the nation.
