Honorable James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister-designate, appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 23, 2025, to outline his vision and priorities for the region.

As the immediate past Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Honorable Gunu pledged to safeguard the region’s security and promote development if confirmed as Regional Minister. Addressing the committee, he assured the people of Volta that their safety would be his top priority. He highlighted plans to collaborate with key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, to implement early warning systems for addressing security threats promptly. “There can never be development without peace,” he emphasized.

Responding to a question about a recent incident in Ho, where protesters set fire to the NDC constituency office, Mr. Gunu stated that investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the disturbances. He refrained from speculating on political motivations but affirmed his commitment to maintaining peace in the region.

Beyond security, Mr. Gunu expressed a strong desire to unlock the Volta Region’s development potential, promising initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of its people.

If approved, Mr. Gunu will also serve as Chairman of the Regional Security Council; a role he believes is crucial for fostering stability and sustainable progress in the region.
