Hogbetsotso Festival 2025 Celebrates Anlo Heritage, Highlights Development Promises
The 2025 Hogbetsotso Festival, a vibrant celebration of Anlo heritage and culture, was held with great pomp and ceremony, featuring traditional performances, prayers, and addresses from prominent dignitaries.
The event saw goodwill messages from key political figures, including Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the NDC, who acknowledged the Anlo state’s significant role in Ghana’s political history and the struggle for independence. He expressed hope that the principles of resilience and liberation embodied by the festival would inspire all Ghanaians.
In a significant update on regional development, the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, announced progress on several key projects. He confirmed that a UHAS School of Pharmacy campus will be in Keta. the Blekusu-Agavedzi sea defense project is ongoing, and the Ohawu Agricultural College is poised to become a full-fledged university. He also noted that the proposed Keta Harbour is awaiting certification from the EPA before work can commence.
These projects directly address requests made by the Awoamefa of Anlo Dukor, HRM Togbi Sri III, in his address.
The Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah, also present, reinforced the government’s commitment to the region, stating that President Mahama’s Volta Economic Corridor plan is expected to generate numerous jobs.
The festival served as both a celebration of rich cultural traditions and a platform for reaffirming commitments to the socio-economic development of the Volta Region.
