<\/a>The Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) was honoured to host the 5th Zonal Public Engagement on the review of Ghana\u2019s 1992 Constitution at the GNAT Hall in Ho today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This important national conversation brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders, traditional authorities, civil society organisations, youth representatives, and concerned citizens all united by a shared desire to modernise our 32-year-old Constitution to reflect the evolving aspirations of the Ghanaian people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was graced by the Chairman of the Constitution Review Commission (CRC), Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh, who emphasised the need for inclusive dialogue in shaping a more accountable, responsive, and forward-looking governance framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on behalf of the Region, the Volta Regional Minister hon. James Gunu highlighted the Constitution\u2019s role in providing stability over the decades, but also noted the urgent need for reforms that will enhance decentralisation, institutional effectiveness, and democratic accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants shared thoughtful and passionate proposals, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a. A democratic process for selecting Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) through public vetting and elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

b. Suggestions to either remove presidential term limits or extend the term to six years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

c. A call for greater independence in appointing the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Chief Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

d. Proposals to improve standards in education, health, and leadership eligibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

e. A strong appeal for constitutional recognition and financial empowerment of the National and Regional Houses of Chiefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These submissions reflect the deep civic consciousness of the Volta people and their unwavering commitment to democratic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The VRCC commends all contributors and calls on citizens to remain engaged not only as observers but as active architects of Ghana\u2019s constitutional future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
