A high-profile delegation, including Togbe Afede XIV Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Volta Regional Minister Hon. James Gunu, the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, and other key stakeholders, toured the Ho Airport to designate the location for a long-awaited aviation academy on 26th<\/sup> February 2025. The academy will feature a pilot training school, an aircraft maintenance section, and other aviation-related facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit marks a repeat of a similar tour two years ago, reaffirming the commitment to kickstart the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the visit, Hon. James Gunu emphasized the strategic importance of the project, stating, “Togbe Afede XIV is a great asset to Ghana, and I admire the partnership between him and Ghana Airports. This initiative is a gateway for us as a nation. A pilot training school will boost tourism, create jobs, and positively impact other sectors. Whatever needs to be done must be done now.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mrs. Opare, the Managing Director of GACL, expressed excitement about the progress, noting that the company is focused on making Regional Airports self-sustaining. She added, “This MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility and pilot training academy will bring significant employment opportunities. We are hopeful that the project will take off soon.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Togbe Afede XIV highlighted that the idea for the project dates back to 2019 and described the current momentum as \u201cGod\u2019s own time\u201d to bring it to fruition. He outlined a three-phase plan, including a pilot training school, a cabin crew and technician training school, and an MRO facility. He also noted the global shortage of aircraft technicians, stressing that Ghana\u2019s academy could serve the entire continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith strong collaborations and international certifications, including from the Federal Aviation Administration, we are poised to make this a reality. In the next eight months, the pilot training school must take off. We must have the hangar in place,\u201d Togbe Afede XIV assured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With strong stakeholder support and renewed commitment, the aviation academy at Ho Airport is expected to significantly enhance Ghana\u2019s aviation industry and create numerous opportunities for the Region and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
