The Ghana Navy<\/strong>, in partnership with the Danish Government<\/strong>, has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art Maritime Simulation Centre<\/strong> at the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) in Nutekpor<\/strong>. The facility, inaugurated on Monday, January 27, 2025<\/strong>, marks a significant milestone in strengthening Ghana\u2019s maritime security<\/strong> and operational readiness in the Gulf of Guinea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Named the LILL-MAY DIDRIKSEN SIMULATION CENTRE<\/strong>, in honor of the first female naval officer in the Royal Danish Navy<\/strong>, the facility boasts a 270-degree Full Mission Bridge Simulator<\/strong>, three 120-degree Part-Task Simulators<\/strong>, and other specialized training areas designed to enhance operational efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the event, Ms. Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew-Opong<\/strong>, Legal Counsel to the President of Ghana<\/strong>, expressed appreciation to Denmark<\/strong> for its steadfast support in enhancing maritime security. She highlighted the importance of international partnerships<\/strong> in combating piracy and other threats in the Gulf of Guinea<\/strong>, a critical global trade corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu<\/strong>, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS)<\/strong>, emphasized that the facility would revolutionize naval training<\/strong>, allowing personnel to refine their skills in a safe and controlled environment<\/strong>. He also acknowledged Denmark\u2019s broader contributions, including the UNODC-supported \u201cShip-in-a-Box\u201d facility<\/strong> and an upcoming world-class swimming pool with diving capabilities<\/strong> for the Ghana Navy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Deputy Chief of Navy of the Royal Danish Navy, Commodore BO Overgaard<\/strong>, reaffirmed Denmark\u2019s dedication to addressing security challenges in the region. He described the Bridge Simulator<\/strong> as a symbol of trust and collaboration<\/strong>, ensuring local ownership<\/strong> and serving as a model for sustainable development. He stressed that the facility would allow for effective training without taking operational ships out of service<\/strong>, ultimately enhancing safety and prosperity<\/strong> in Ghana<\/strong> and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) NAVTRAC, Commodore Solomon Asiedu-Larbi<\/strong>, also described the centre as a game-changer<\/strong> for maritime training, acknowledging the careful planning, collaboration, and commitment to excellence<\/strong> that brought the project to life. He expressed gratitude to the CNS<\/strong> and Denmark<\/strong> for making the initiative a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commissioning of this cutting-edge facility<\/strong> cements NAVTRAC\u2019s position as a leading maritime training hub<\/strong>, ensuring that Ghana\u2019s naval forces are well-equipped to address evolving security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea<\/strong> and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
