On Monday, June 14, 2021, the Hon. Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, participated in the Opening Ceremony of a 2-Day Step-Down Workshop on Essential Services Package for Women and Girls Victims of Violence held at the Sky Plus Hotel, Ho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Workshop was organized by the Volta Regional Coordinating Council in collaboration with the Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVSSU) of the Ghana Police Service with funding from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants were drawn from the National Office of UNFPA, Regional DOVSSU of the Ghana Police Service, Regional Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Attorney General’s Department, Regional Department of Gender, the Judicial Service, Regional Office of the National Youth Authority, Regional Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Regional Office of Legal Aid, Regional House of Chiefs, Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) Volta Chapter, Regional Department of Social Welfare, Regional Directorate of Ghana Education Service, International Needs Ghana, Plan Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) and Alliance for Reproductive Health and Rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a brief statement, Dr. Letsa welcomed stakeholders to the workshop and stated that the issue of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence was of great concern to government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stated further that all stakeholders must work together to reduce the occurrence of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence to the barest minimum, if not eliminate it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Letsa emphasised the need to cause perpetrators of such violence to face the full rigours of the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Finally, he entreated stakeholders to fully participate in the workshop in order to enhance their knowledge and capacity towards the provision of effective and efficient services to victims of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
