The Board Chairman of the National Road Safety Authority, Rev. Ismaila Hasmilttson Awudu, together with some staff of the Authority at the Headquarters and Regional Office respectively paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Volta Regional Minister in the Minister\u2019s office, Ho. The Board Chairman who was in the Region on a working visit saw the need to pay the courtesy call on the Hon. Regional Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rev. Awudu during interaction with the Hon. Regional Minister stated that the National Road Safety Commission had become an Authority and H.E. Nana Akufo Addo, the President of the Republic had directed that resources be mobilised to empower the Authority in achieving its new mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With regard to the support from the Co-ordinating Council, Rev. Awudu was very appreciative of the support the Co-ordinating Council and the Hon. Regional Minister constantly give to the Authority in the Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That notwithstanding, he requested of the Hon. Regional Minister to continue to champion Road Safety issues in the Region even in the election year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On his part, Ing. Kwesi Yirenkyi, the Regional Director of the Authority revealed that through the effort of the Hon. District Chief Executive for South Tongu, the Authority was opening an office at Sogakofe to ensure road safety on the N1 road especially around the Sogakofe Bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hon. Regional Minister on his part congratulated the Authority on its new status and expressed his happiness about associating himself with the Authority in the Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Letsa indicated that although there had been some decrease in the number of Road Accidents in the Region, the number of cases was still unacceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He did not hide his unhappiness about the spate of accidents resulting from “Okada” Operation in the Region which was an issue of grave concern to the Co-ordinating Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, Dr. Letsa assured the Board Chairman of his continuous support for the Authority to ensure safer roads for all in the Region, as he requested more training for especially many commercial drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
