The much talked-about eastern corridor road, which has become an albatross around the neck of residents who live along the stretch, will be completed by the end of this year.<\/p>\n
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who has been speaking at Aflao, Ho and Hohoe Central Mosques during his nine-day Ramadan tour of the region, revealed this.<\/p>\n
He stated that inasmuch as the said road \u2013 which when completed will be the shortest route from the south to the northern parts of Ghana \u2013 is dear to the hearts of the people, it is also a priority and of concern to the government.<\/p>\n
For them, the road is not just a project, but one of the topmost items that will be used to measure the credibility of Nana Akufo-Addo in terms of \u00a0\u00a0his electioneering campaign promises to Ghanaians.\u00a0 He assured the people of the region that discussions were ongoing to resume the abandoned eastern corridor road project.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am very confident that the work on the eastern corridor road will start again in the course of the year. We\u2019re very focused on it; the president mentioned it in the State of the Nation Address, and the Ministry of Roads is very aware of it. By the grace of God, we\u2019ll do it before the end of this year,\u201d Dr. Bawumia assured.<\/p>\n
He reiterated that the\u00a0NPP\u00a0government had started fulfilling the promises made to Ghanaians, and that everyone would be a beneficiary, irrespective of background or location.\u00a0Some of these include the Free Senior High School Programme, restoration of teacher and nursing trainee allowances, reduction in electricity tariffs and \u2018One District, One Factory.\u2019<\/p>\n
In order to improve the lives of people and raise the image of less developed parts of the country, he said government had also set up an Inner City and Zongo Development Ministry, with an allocation of GH\u00a2100 million.<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cThese fulfilled promises and more are strong indications that government is committed to fulfilling all other promises made.\u201d He therefore, called on all Muslims to pray for the country.<\/p>\n
Saturday\u2019s visit marked the beginning of the vice president\u2019s nationwide Ramadan tour to pray with Muslim faithful during their month of fasting for God to maintain the peace in Ghana.<\/p>\n
He was accompanied by senior government and party officials, including Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa; Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, Boniface Abubakar Saddique; Lands and Natural Resources Minister, John Peter Amewu and NPP Volta Regional Chairman, Makafui Kofi Woanyah.<\/p>\n
