The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, on Wednesday, received the newly confirmed Volta Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Ali, and members of the Volta Regional Council of Zongo Chiefs at the Residency Conference Room in Ho.

The visit followed the recent clarification by His Eminence, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, who on 1st November 2025 officially confirmed Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Ali as the legitimate Regional Chief Imam after years of misunderstanding over the position.

The delegation, led by Ing. Chief Ahmed Jalaba Osman Bore, Secretary of the Council, congratulated Hon. Gunu on his appointment and presented key developmental concerns, including the completion of educational projects, promotion of health and youth employment, and closer collaboration between Zongo Chiefs and local assemblies.

Hon. Gunu, who was joined by Alhaji Mohammed Avorna Akape, Chief Director of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, thanked the Regional Chief Imam and the Zongo Chiefs for the visit. He commended the National Chief Imam for resolving the leadership dispute, calling it a unifying step for the Muslim community in the Volta Region. The Minister also noted that Mahama has moved from recognition to integration of Zongo Chiefs into our local governance system by joining the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs. Hon. Gunu assured the delegation of government’s commitment to partner with traditional and religious leaders to promote peace and accelerate development across all communities.
