The Volta Region has been selected to host the National Launch of the 2019 Anti-Bushfire Campaign being organised by the Ghana National Fire Service (G.N.F.S.). The launch would, precisely, be held at Adaklu Tsrefe in the Adaklu District, tentatively, on October 11, 2019 under the theme “My Environment, My Life – Let Us Stop Bushfire”.

The above was made known by DCFO Kweku Semekor Fiadzo, Director in charge of Rural Fires at the National Headquarters of G.N.F.S. when he paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at his office.

DCFO Fiadzo explained that Volta Region and, for that matter, Adaklu District has been chosen to host the National Launch as a result of the statistics on bushfire in the region and the bushfire prone nature of the district.

Furthermore, he stated that the campaign is to create awareness on how best to suppress bushfires, if not to eradicate them completely.

Elucidating the theme, he stated it was chosen based on the need to protect the environment from bushfires in order to sustain farming and Government’s Flagship Programme of Planting for Food and Jobs

The Hon. Minister heartily welcomed DCFO Fiadzo, and also expressed his happiness about the choice of the Region as the host of the event.

He consequently assured DCFO Fiadzo that the region was ever ready to host the event, as well as ensure its successful organisation.

Furthermore, the Hon Minister seized the opportunity to inform the Director that the region would be hosting the 2019 National Farmers Day Celebration, as well holding a Trade, Investment and Culture Fair in the last quarter of the year.

He concluded by requesting that a Local Organising Committee for the event be formed with the Hon. Deputy Regional Minister, Rev, Johnson Avuletey as the Chairman, and the Regional Commander of the GNFS, ACFO Janet Duah as the Secretary. The Committee should have the Regional Director of Agriculture, the Regional Director of Forestry Services Division of the Forestry Commission, Hon District Chief Executive for Adaklu District Assembly among others as members.

DCOP Fiadzo was accompanied by ACOP Janet Duah, Regional Commander of the GNFS and DOI Prince Billey Anaglate, the Second-in-Command at the Regional Command of the GNFS, while Rev. Johnson Avuletey, the Deputy Regional Minister; Mr. Kandey Phanuel Donkor, Hon District Chief Executive for Adaklu District Assembly and Mr. Felix B. Chaahaah, the Chief Director were present when the Hon. Regional Minister received DCFO Fiadzo.
