The Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, has launched the Turnkey Electrification Project under the Rural Electricity Acceleration and Urban Intensification Initiative (REIP) in the Volta Region.
The sensitisation and launch ceremony, held at the forecourt of the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council, brought together key stakeholders to create awareness of the project, outline its scope and clarify the roles of institutions involved in its implementation.
Welcoming the initiative, the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition for the intervention, stressing that reliable electricity remains essential to the socio-economic development of communities across the region.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, said the project forms part of Government’s commitment to expanding electricity access and driving inclusive socio-economic development.
He disclosed that 206 communities across all 18 Municipal and District Assemblies in the Volta Region would benefit from the extension of electricity supply under the initiative.
According to him, the project is expected to be completed within six months, with Byes and Ways Limited serving as the main contractor.
The project is expected to improve electricity access in underserved communities, boost local economic activities, enhance educational opportunities, improve access to essential services and contribute to the overall development of beneficiary communities.
The ceremony also provided the opportunity for the formal handover of project sites to the contractor, while stakeholders were briefed on arrangements for effective implementation, supervision and monitoring of the project.
