The Regional Department of Social Welfare of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council organized a two-day capacity-building programme from the 28th to the 29th of November 2023.

The Chief Director of the office of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, Mr. Augustus K. Awity during the training, encouraged the Social Development Officers to ensure that they continuously update their skills and knowledge by taking advantage of the numerous policy documents and training manuals which have been provided to them regularly.

He encouraged the Officers to do a lot of reading to be familiar with the requirements of their jobs as well as the policies of the Local Government Service.  

Participating officers were drawn from Five (5) Districts in the Volta Region, comprising Heads of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development and supporting staff from Agortime Ziope, Akatsi North, Central Tongu, Ketu North and Anloga Districts respectively.

  Participants were taken through specific topics such as working with shelters and care institutions, working with Day Care Centres, Foster care services, probation and aftercare services, court work, dispute and conflict resolution in Child and Family welfare cases, development of basic indicators for monitoring and follow-ups, quality report writing, among others.

 The objective of the training was too close and identify knowledge and skills gaps by ensuring that officers are well-equipped to deliver world-class services to members of the community in their various MMDAs. The programme was facilitated by Senior Officers of the Department led by the Regional Director, Mrs. Stella Mawusi Agbezuhlor Mawutor.
