Regional Environmental Health Officer Shares Information On Waste Management In Volta Region With Students Of Ghana Armed Forces Command And Staff College
On Monday, 19th September 2022, Students of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) embarked on a study visit to the Volta Region. As part of the study visit, the students interacted with the Regional Environmental Health Officer, Ms. Stella Kumedzro.
Ms. Kumedzro made a presentation on “Sanitation and Solid Waste Management in the Volta Region” to the students. As an overview of waste management in the Region, Ms. Kumedzro stated that poor management of waste accounts for increase in Out-Patient Department (OPD) cases at the hospitals and health Centres in the Region. She intimated that records showed that 11% of OPD cases were as a result of poor sanitation.
Other areas the presentation covered included Definition of Terms, Quantity of Solid Waste Generated in the Region, Solid Waste Disposal Methods in the Region, Strategies Adopted and the Circular Economy Concept.
