It is no doubt that the outbreak of COVID-19 has resulted in the loss of a number of lives in the Volta Region. As a contagious disease, protocols were outlined to contain the spread of the virus. Among the protocols were the proper disposal of bodies of victim under the close supervision of Environmental Health Officers who played active role in the nation’s response to the spread of the virus. The Regional Environmental Health Office under the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council charged with ensuring the proper disposal of the bodies of victims collaborated with some districts in the Volta and Eastern Regions on Covid-19 burials.

The Regional Office worked with the Agortime Ziope District, Ho West District, Adaklu District, Ketu South Municipality, and Akuapim South District to properly and safely undertake the burial of Covid-19 Victims.

The burial team from the region supported the district level teams to undertake the burial activities, which included disinfection of grave, and the safe preparation of the body.

A total of nine (9) burials were carried out successfully. During the burials, the Regional teams provided updates to the local teams on the internment processes. Finally the Regional teams advised community members against handling bodies suspected to be Covid-19 victims, and unhygienic practices in order to prevent contamination and spread of the virus.
