Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) Forum on a Decade of the Management and Use of Petroleum Revenue in Ghana Held in Ho
A Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) Forum on a Decade of the Management and Use of Petroleum Revenue in Ghana has been held in Ho. The forum was held at the Conference Hall of the Catholic Secretariat, Sokode Lokoe. Participants included Representatives of Faith-based Organisations, Political Parties, Security Service, Civil Society Organisations, Traditional Rulers, Ghana Journalist Association and the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council.
The forum has been held under the theme, “A Decade of the Management and Use of Petroleum Revenue in Ghana: Successes and Lessons for the Future.”
The Hon. Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa delivered the Welcome Address in which he acknowledged the role of PIAC since its establishment in 2011 under Section 51 of the Petroleum Revenue Management Act, 2011 (Act 815) as amended by Act 893.
The forum has been held as part of PIAC’s 10th Anniversary Celebration which had been launched on March 25, 2021 by H.E. the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo under the theme, “Strengthening Citizens’ Ownership and Understanding of PIAC and its Oversight of Petroleum Revenue Management.”
Dr. Letsa expressed the joy that the forum was held in the Region not only to inform the citizens about the management and use of the country’s petroleum revenues in the last 10 years but more importantly, to receive their feedback on the management of the resource with the view to making the resource more beneficial to all citizens.
He therefore entreated all to be active participants, for their suggestions, proposals and views would find expression in the policies and programmes for the management of the petroleum resource.
Dr. Letsa seized the opportunity to congratulate PIAC on its 10th Anniversary and wished the Committee well in the execution of its statutory mandate to ensure that all citizens benefit from the exploitation of the resource.
Prior to the forum and earlier in the day, members of the Committee led by Rev. Dr. Chris Sokpor paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Regional Minister at the office to notify him about their presence in the Region for the forum and to inspect some petroleum revenue funded projects.
