Following the official launch of the Turnkey Electrification Project, which will extend electricity to 206 communities across the Volta Region within six (6) months, I held a brief meeting with officials from GRIDCo, ECG, relevant MDAs and the contractors to discuss the timely release of lands required for the execution of the project.

During the meeting, the MDAs raised concerns about issues of over-billing by ECG, which are affecting residents within their respective jurisdictions. I urged ECG officials to treat these concerns with urgency and take the necessary steps to resolve them promptly.

I also impressed upon the contractors the need to ensure that the majority of workers engaged for the project are recruited from the local communities. Beyond extending electricity to our people, the project must also create meaningful employment opportunities and ensure that our communities benefit directly from its implementation.
