Together with key stakeholders, the Hon. Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, planted some trees on June 11, 2021 in Ho under the Green Ghana Project which sought to have 5 million trees planted across the country on, June 11, 2021.

At a short ceremony before the planting of the first seedling at the Abattoir, Sokode Etoe, in the Ho Municipality, Dr. Letsaexpressed his happiness about the project introduced by His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through the Hon. Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and the Forestry Commission.

He was confident that the Region would exceed its target of planting 200, 000 tree seedlings. He underscored the need for planting more trees and nurturing them.

Dr. Letsa reminded the gathering that should the unbridled felling of trees continue, efforts to plant trees would be an exercise in futility.

He therefore entreated all to contact the Forestry Services Division (FSD) of the Forestry Commission (FC) for advice and permit before felling any tree.  He equally entreated public utility providers to do same.

Dr. Letsa acknowledged the participation of the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV as an indication of the support of the revered traditional rulers for the Green Ghana Project in the Region.

He commended H.E. the Kenyan High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Eliphas M. Barine and a delegation of Members of Parliament from Kenya, who were on a tour of the Region, for participating in the ceremony as well as planting some seedlings.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Director of Operations of FSD of the FC, Members of the Regional Security Council, Regional Heads of Departments and Agencies, Traditional Authorities from Sokode, the Staff of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, Staff of the Ho Municipal Assembly, Staff of the FSD of the FC in the Region, members of the media and all those who made the exercise a success.

Dr. Letsa had the privilege of planting tree seedlings at the abattoir, the 66 Artillery Regiment Barracks and the new site of the School of Hygiene, all in Ho.

The tree planting exercise took place in all the 18 Municipalities and Districts of the Region.
