The Department of Gender under the auspices of the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council (VRCC) with support from UNFPA organised its first quarterly stakeholders platform meeting on the Provision of Essential Service Package for Survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the Volta Region.

The meeting which was chaired by the Acting Regional Co-coordinating Director of the VRCC Mr. Augustus Kwaku Awity took place on Thursday, 30th March 2023 in Ho.

The Acting Regional Co-ordinating Director in his opening remarks expressed the need for the platform to discuss and address issues of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and other related issues. He called on all stakeholder institutions to attach the needed importance to issues raised at the meeting and find lasting solutions to assist mitigate issues of SGBV in the Region.

Various institutions including the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, Department of Social Welfare, the Ho Teaching Hospital, Department of Children, Attorney Generals Department, Ho Circuit Court, National Youth Authority and Civil Society Organisations made presentations.

At the meeting, issues relating to how to improve service delivery to survivors of SGBV as well as measures to curb the occurrence of SGBV and related issues were discussed extensively. An advocacy team therefore was formed by the committee to meet with some key service institutions in order to facilitate the resolution of some existing service delivery challenges to victims of SGBV.
