Daycare Centre Operators Admonished To Register Their Facilities As Required By Law
Day Care Centres serve as a haven for children of working parents. It is a social service that ensures the protection of children in a safe environment under the supervision of trained and responsible adults while working parents undertake their productive activities during the day. Thus, the Children’s Act of 1998, (Act 560) mandates the Department in the various District Assemblies to be responsible for the proper administration of Day Care Centre services.
The Regional Department of Social Welfare of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, in fulfillment of its mandate of ensuring the proper administration of Social Welfare services in the Region, undertook monitoring of selected Day Care Centers in Ho Municipal and the Agortime Ziope District.
The two-day activity was jointly undertaken with the National Office of the Department of Social Welfare and the Community Development offices in the affected Assemblies.
A total of seven (7) daycare centers were monitored in Ho municipal and Agortime Ziope District. The centers include Kharistar International School, Treasure Christian
School, Glory Kids International School, Comfort Gbettro Memorial School, Woedem Academy, Ben Oxford School, and Inheritance School.
The team inspected the premises, record books, and operating licenses of the various facilities visited.
The operators who were not licensed were requested to have their facilities registered immediately since their operations are illegal without fulfillment of the national registration requirement.
The need for frequent visits to these and other center’s which are spread all over the Region has been identified as an important activity to ensure their operations are guided by minimum national standards.
