The All-Regional Games (ARG), a significant sporting initiative aimed at discovering and nurturing athletic talent across Ghana, marked its presence in the Volta Region with a ceremonial torch relay and the inauguration of a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC). Spearheaded by former Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan, the ARG is set to foster grassroots sports development and pave the way for Ghanaian athletes to excel on international platforms, particularly the Olympic Games.

The inaugural meeting of the Volta Region’s 15- member Local Organising Committee, held at the VRCC Conference Room on Tuesday, 14th May 2024 was a momentous occasion, symbolizing the collaborative efforts of the former Black Star Captain, sports stakeholders, and community leaders to realize the vision of the ARG. It also served as a platform to align the goals and responsibilities of the LOC members, ensuring a unified approach toward the successful execution of the games.

The constitution of the LOC reflects a strategic approach to sports development, involving key figures such as the Chief Director of the VRCC, Mr. Augustus K. Awity, the Regional Director of the National Sports Authority, Ho, Mr. Kodjo Fianoo, the All Regional Games Technical Advisor, Coach J. E. Sarpong and other notable personalities from the Sporting Associations and Federations as well as some key stakeholders including the Volta Development Forum. The committee’s mandate concentrates mainly on the organization of a regional level event to identify talents for the various sporting disciplines as well as participate in the national launch of the All Regional Games.

The 2024 ARG will feature nine sporting disciplines, including Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Athletics, Arm Wrestling, and Paralympic sports. The event promises to be a celebration of sportsmanship and a stepping stone for the next generation of Ghanaian athletes. The National launch of the All Regional Games is slated for June 15, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with the anticipation of fostering a competitive yet congenial atmosphere for all participants. It would also an avenue for the participating regions to exhibit their unique cultures.
