Agricultural Extension Agents Trained on Soil Fertilization Management
The Regional Department of Agriculture in collaboration with OCP Ghana Limited has trained Agricultural Extension Agents across the 18 municipalities and districts in the Volta Region on soil fertilization management.
OCP Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the OCP Group, is a leading global provider of fertilizer. It develops fertilizer solutions customized to local conditions and crops needs.
The training took place in Ho at the Ho Municipal Assembly Hall and in Sogakope at the South Tongu District Assembly Hall on the 7th and 9th of December, 2022. In all, 140 Extension Agents comprising 115 males and 25 females were trained on soil sampling techniques, and soil testing and analysis amongst others. The Extension Agents at the end of the training would be able to provide farmers with the best recommendation of fertilizer for crops especially cereals using the nutrient-based approach that works well for each crop and soil type.
The Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr. William Dzamefe, expressed joy about the collaboration. He stated that at the end of the train I, each district would have its own soil types and profiles, creating a regional database on the soil profile. He added that the database would serve as a guide to investors in the future.
