On Thursday 23rd June, 2022, the Department in partnership with UNFPA organized an advocacy meeting with pregnant adolescent girls and adolescent mothers from six (6) communities in the Afadjato South District. The programme took place at the Afadjato South District Assembly in Ve-Golokuati. The communities include Ve-Golokuati, Liati Agbonyra, Kpeve Old Town, Sadzikofe, Logba and Ve-Koloenu.

The program was to empower adolescent mothers and pregnant girls on the forms, implications and prevention of SGBV and Child Marriage and how to seek redress, motivate participants to return to school or take up a form of trade to secure their future, and to educate adolescent mothers on their sexual and reproductive health rights and services available to them in their Districts.

Mr. Fabian Vorvor the District Coordinating Director was present to give the welcome address and to express his gratitude to the organizers of the programme for giving these young adolescents the opportunity to get back on track.

Others present were Mr. Thywill Eyra Kpe the Regional Director of Department of Gender and her staff, Madam Delphia Yayra Pappoe the District Director for social welfare as well as the Gender Desk Officer, resource persons from Ghana Health Service and Ghana Education Service.

Issues discussed were focused on SGBV, Child Marriage, Teenage pregnancy: effects and prevention with focus on STIs and family planning, and GES Pregnancy and Re-entry Policy.
