Advocacy Meeting With Pregnant Adolescent Girls And Adolescent Mothers At Ave Dakpa
On Wednesday 22nd June, 2022, the Department in partnership with UNFPA organized an advocacy meeting with pregnant adolescent girls and adolescent mothers from ten (10) communities in the Akatsi North District. The programme took place at the Akatsi North District Assembly in Ave Dakpa. The communities include Zemu, Avevi, Metrsikasa, Ziope, Ave-Dzadzepe, Ave-Havi, Afiadenyigba, Ave-Xevi, Kpedome and Posmonu.
The meeting was to empower adolescent mothers and pregnant girls on the forms, implications and prevention of SGBV and Child Marriage and how to seek redress, motivate participants to return to school or take up a form of trade to secure their future, and to educate adolescent mothers on their sexual and reproductive health rights and services available to them in their Districts.
Hon. Simon Peter Kofi Ofosu the District Chief Executive was present to give the welcome address and to encourage young adolescents to avail themselves to the opportunities still available to them in order to achieve their dreams.
Others present were Mr. Thywill Eyra Kpe the Regional Director of Department of Gender and her staff, Madam Victoria Fato the UNFPA Focal Person at the VRCC, Madam Augustina Modzakah the resource person from G.E.S, Madam Lydia Opoku the District Public Health Nurse, Madam Vivian A. Galley the Gender Desk Officer and some officials from the Social Welfare Department.
Issues discussed were focused on SGBV, Child Marriage, Teenage pregnancy: effects and prevention with focus on STIs and family planning, and GES Pregnancy and Re-entry Policy.
