A delegation from the Ghana Health Service and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Volta Region has visited the Hon. Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa to brief him on the impending COVID 19 vaccination exercise for all Health Workers in the Region.

As part of national efforts to curb the spread of the COVID 19 virus, all health workers in the country would be vaccinated from tomorrow the 25th of March to Monday the 29th of March, 2021. The exercise shall cover all Public Facilities, CHAG Institutions, Health Training Institutions, Allied Health Facilities and Private For-Profit Facilities. 

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Deputy Director in Charge of Public Health, Dr. Kwesi Djokoto extended the appreciation of the Regional Health Directorate to the Hon. Regional Minister for his unflinching support for the health and welfare of the people of the Volta Region.

He further informed the Hon. Regional Minister that the vaccination exercise will reach 14,450 health workers from all the 18 districts in the Volta Region.

He revealed that adequate preparations in terms of training, logistics and microplanning had been undertaken to ensure a successful campaign.

The Regional Director for the FDA, Mr. Gordon Akurugu, on his part assured that his team despite the known safety profile of the vaccines will monitor the exercise for any adverse event following immunization.

The National Monitors led by Mr. Bright Amissah-Nyarko who also doubles as the National Chairman of NGOs in health informed the Hon. Regional Minister that they had come into the Region to work with the Regional and District teams to ensure a successful exercise. He mentioned that the team was so far satisfied with the Regional preparations.

Responding to the information from the delegation, the Hon. Regional Minister acknowledged the collective effort of the health agencies and the various stakeholders in the fight against the COVID 19 pandemic.

He assured the delegation that as the Chairman of the Regional Public Health Emergency Management Committee, he remained committed to all pandemic response activities.

The Hon. Regional Minister further stated that the delegation could count on the full participation of all the agencies and District Assemblies in the Region.

Finally, he drew the attention of the delegation to the fact that the success of the exercise would boost the confidence of the public and increase the vaccine uptake during the upcoming four (4) phase roll out plan for all eligible residents in the Volta Region.
