DEPARTMENT of GENDER has sensitised60 girls as part of a “A Three-day Mentorship and Empowerment Programme” which began on Tuesday, 9th August 2022 at the GNAT Hall, Ho. The sensitization was held on the second day, Wednesday, 10th August 2022, of the programme and included   presentations on selected topics as well as outdoor child protection activities to develop the capacity of participating adolescent girls.

Six presentations were made on the following topics:

1. The Role of the Police in Preventing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and How to Seek Redress.

2. Child Marriage and the Law,

3. Rights and Responsibilities of Adolescents,

4. Educational Progression and Career Guidance,

5. Developing Assertiveness as a Girl for Personal Growth and Development, and

6. Good Grooming and Personal Hygiene.

Resource persons present for this sensitisation were Ms. Harriet Kuedokah from DOVVSU of the Ghana Police Service; Mrs. Thywill Eyra Kpe, Regional Director for Department of Gender; Mr. Israel Akrobortu, Regional Director for the Department of Children; Mr. Gideon Tsawodzi, Regional Guidance and Counseling Coordinator from Ghana Education Service; Mrs. Hillary Gbedemah, a lawyer and Gender Advocate; Mrs. Millicent Dakeh-Gadzanku, the Regional Girls Education Officer.

The outdoor child protection activities included “Circle of Support”, “Balloon Game”, and “Gender Power Walk.”
